The pins they are referring to are the pins in the CPU socket. New boards now have pins there instead of them being on the CPU so the CPU is in fact flat with contact points on the underside. They should have stuck with the ZIF socket in my opinion! Impossible to bend pins with that method.

What I'm thinking is, perhaps when I installed the Zalman CNPS9500 CPU cooler it applied excessive pressure on the CPU and caused pins under it to bend. Needless to say, I'll be using the stock cooler when the new board arrives! lol Not a big deal not using the Zalman, I hear the stock coolers are fine but it does mean I have a cooler going spare unless I can sent it back to Ebuyer. I originally wanted the Zalman as I was intending to get an E6600 and overclock so wanted the extra cooling. Not so necessary now with an E6850 at stock speed. Fast enough for me!

I'll also be installing Vista so will prepare for possible teething trouble!

Glad your stuff is up and running. I've got confirmation the courier will be delivering my bits tomorrow. Will let you know if and when it all works!

I guess I got to love computers being an IT tech! and you're right, there is a new problem to solve just about every day.

New board arrived on Thursday and is working fine. I didn't use the Zalman cooler this time just in case that caused the problem the first time but can't be sure. Anyhow, everything is working, Vista is installed and I'm just finding all the Vista compatible software for everything!

I didn't get the cost of the courier refunded as they said it was user damage, not that I can see how I managed to damage the CPU socket pins. Just glad everything is working now.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Check out my specs under 'My Computer' on the left :)
