Anybody heard or no about this manufacturer, they do a 1000w psu that i can get localy, but is it any good as I cant seem to find much about them but I had a good look at it and the build quality is as good as it gets but that dont nessaserily make it a good buy even though its £ 114.

Seems kinda cheap for a 1kW unit. I've not heard of them before, so I really can't say. With power supplies, you get what you pay for. The cheapest ones I can find of the 1kW flavor that I'd recommend start at around £170, at online stores.
A good power supply has tight voltage regulation under heavy load, at an operating temperature between 35-50*C.
While not the only factor, a heavy unit is a good sign of a quality build. Typically the heavier power supplies have more components in use to provide the power and sustain it.

Just because the unit does not blow up when you use it does not make it a good power supply. It may work fine when you turn it on, but if you put the heat on and it causes problems it's not a good unit. The problem is most people don't have the proper equipment to test power supplies just sitting around. This equipment includes a programmable load tester, and ideally an oscilloscope and high quality digital multimeter, like Fluke.

Do you have a model number? Dax may be the brand, but if we can determine who made the guts, I could probably give a verdict. Most power supplies come from a few sources and different companies just slap their name on it.

If we can't find out who made it, then I'd steer clear of it and look at something in the 700-800W range, which is more in line with that £114 price.

Hi I went for a Hiper 770 and that has it sorted my 8800gts is up and running, so it would seem my Hiper 580 did not have the guts to power the latest cards so Ill put that one aside for future use, and as for the Dax as I havn't hered of em I decided to stay clear.Thanx to all.:p
