External hard drive connectivity

    I am shopping for an external hard drive and would like to know if I purchase an external hard drive that has two firewire ports, can I plug one port into my computer and the other into my camcorder and then record straight to the external hard drive? The alternative would be to record the video to the internal hard drive then copy it back to the external hard drive. Is this the only way?

    it would depend on the camcorder model you have?

    I have an Canon Optura 40. What feature would I look for?

    does the camcorder give you the option to save to a external source, if not the only way would be copy over from mini-dv to hard drive...

    no it doesnt have that feature. I will shop for one that does thanks.
