    hi!

I have a similar config to yours, but I'd not buy a 6800. Better go with a 7950GT or 7600GT (XFX preferably :D), if you have the money (even my humble PC got a considerable boost when I got my 7600GS).

    see here

    Hey!

    Thank you for replying :)

Yes I realize now that 6800 isn't the best choice, and I just looked into the 7800...so that worked well with your PC? No problems with overheating? Some say that the card is a bit too long... and my biggest question is if I have enough memory to house such a card..but if it worked just fine with you, I think I'll take my chances...how much did you get yours for? The prices seem to be ok, nothing too big...

HWF is there for everyone! :D

I have a 7600GS, not a 7800. Overheating shouldn't be an issue - mine keeps idle @ 48-52 C* and loaded @ 65-75 C*. That's normal. And those same temperatures apply when I have it OCed. And that all with stock case/VGA cooling. And AGP versions of the 7600GS don't come with passive cooling, so, again, no probs. I got mine not so cheap since they are not so popular (like 130 euros I think.).

BUT the 7600GS is for mainstream gamers like me, if you want, as you said, high end - go with a 7600GT (at least) or, better, a 7950GT.

And, well, you have 1GB of memory - so that won't slow your performance down (I have 512MB and it's okay).

    Thanks for all the help!

I have decided to go with the 7800, and not with the 7950, only because the 7950 is said to be a heavy power consumer, and I only have a 350 Watt PSU, and the 7950 needs minimum 400Watt, so I think I'll stick to the 7800 just to be safe :)

OK! I hope it'll work out for you!

But to play it safe, try and use this PSU wattage calculator. You'll see what PSU wattage your system will need after the upgrade and hopefully you already have a strong enough PSU. [there is a on-line PSU wattage calculator, but I think it's not available or down]
