I'm going to say it simple, I hope you guys can help me out. After reinstalling Windows XP along with all the drivers with my recovery CDs, my Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K15 Drive isn't acting the same as it used to on my laptop. Here's how it is: Plays and recognizes CDs Burns CDs Most of the times Plays and Recognizes DVD Movies Does not recognize blank DVD-Rs Does not recognize blank DVD-RWs Will not burn DVDs (The main problem) Also, it should be known that I have tried to use third-party programs, such as ImgBurn, Nero, and I even bought Alcohol 120% to test it. While they all say that the ISO or files are burned and the burning process was a "Success," when I put the DVD back in and look at it in Windows Explorer, it says it's blank with 0kb Free Space, and 0kb Used Space. Even when I bring the DVD to other computers, it says it's blank. This is a massive bummer to me, because I used to use DVDs all the time to back up my music, movies, and files because CDs don't cut it. I'm not a tech-genius, so kinda be detailed with me please? What's you laptop (be as specific as you can)? In general: it's quite odd - usually recovery CDs contain the original drive image which you got when you bought the laptop. I have never had this kind of problem, but maybe the latest (see manufacturer website) chipset driver will resolve the problem. Otherwise harass the manufacturer or browse forums via google search
Either theres some kind of problem with a windows driver component, or the drive is failing. You might want to try a reinstall of windows, and install nero on a fresh install to test it. If it still fails, it's probably a failed drive. I've never done this, but replacing the drive on a laptop may be possible.
My laptop is a Compaq Presario V2000 bought in 2005. I've tried Nero, no luck. I'd really rather avoid having to reinstall Windows AGAIN. I hope the drive's not failing. It seems to read regular DVDs and DVD games just fine. Are you sure it could be failing?
what about some settings. if seems to be reading everything okay, then maybe somewhere, some checkbox has been left unchecked? But don't take my word for that. And if the drive's failing, you can buy a new one and put it in!
Hi mate i have a similar problem right now on my desktop, it will read cd's and dvds and even burn cd's however when i try to burn a dvd it shuts my pc down. i've borrowed a drive off a friend and that one works fine so im assuming my drive is faulty. you could also try a cd/dvd lens cleaning kit that you can pick up from a pc shop for cheap. Have you had this problem for ages or did it used to work? Cheers Dave
