Hello, fellwo HFWer/guest! I recently bought a case fan and wanted to know - how do I have to install it - with the fan sucking air from the outside and blowing it into the case or with the fan sucking the air out of the case and into the surrounding room?
You'll have to put the case fan in such a way, that it blows the hot air out of the case. The front/top of the fan should point inside the case.
I already reconed that I'll have to turn it around anyways since the other fan's positioned just like that... now the only problem would be to get my lazy arse moving
I know the situation [ot]I'm even too lazy to download some Winamp plugins, while I got all the download URLs [/ot]
yeah, front & top bring air in and back & sides take air out of the case, but make sure you have similar fans bringing air in as you have blowing air out there is a work or term that describes the amount of air moved by a fan but i can't remember it
That isn't always true. My Silentium T5 case has fans at the back from the top to the middle that blow hot air out, and there is a fan in the lower front of the case that sucks cool air onto the case. So I guess the cool air will flow from the front to the back of the case, where the hot air is blown out. Some cases have a fan in the side as well.
yeah, but your Silentium case was designed to thermodynamically reduce noise & it doesn't comply with ATX standards, although your case is good (presumably because it is made by Arctic Cooling, they have a good reputation) Source BTW: i was meaning in general, RH for making sure i'm correct Edit: you are correct about your case RH, but, hot air is only expelled from the back of your case by the PSU, otherwise the back of you case bring air in
yeah, me too, but thank you for making sure i'm correct  BTW: i need people like you RH, thankies
maybe I don't have to move my lazy arse after all I have a fan of the same size and the same RPM's and probably also the same amount of air-moving capabilities as the one I bought installed on the back and blowing air out of the case. I installed the new one on the front of the case, thus making it false that I have to turn it around yahoo!
Actually, the rear and top fans are to be the exhaust. Front and side should be intake. Hot air rises, cold air settles, so this is the most effective way to dispense your hot air.
