Is it possible to buy a replacement DVD drive for an Acer computer?

The current one makes horrible whiring sounds whenever used and jams DVDs all the time, its used as a DVD player a lot

The code thing is HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4164B

Any ideas would be helpful, i get on better with Dell's :chk:

    Thankyou!

    Welcome to HWF :)

Is it a laptop or a pc?
Acer laptops have very special drives. You could however, buy an extrernal drive. If your computer is a PC, then you could just buy a new internal drive.

You can use any kind of IDE DVD drive.

99.9% of the time thet's true, however i'm not that familiar with Acer components, but as RH said any IDE DVD will fit, unless your existing drive is SATA or your system uses custom Acer parts

BTW: i think your drive is IDE

    Edit: i'm a plank too
