speeding up vista

    have vista ultimate on my laptop witch has 1gb ram but is always on 65+ % useage just when its idle but want to no if i can disable any stuff to make it les strain on my comp and let it perform abit better as its a brand new laptop so would like it to act like one. cheers

    First of all, check how many programs are running on startup. Disable those which are not required..
    Second thing you can do is disable Aero Vision....Your Notebook will be a lot faster..

    where do i disable all the things from im quite new to vista

    To remove startup items, go to Start > Run (or windows key + R). Enter MSCONFIG. Now go to the tab Startup. Uncheck all apps you don't need and click on OK.
    To turn of Aero, right-click the Desktop and click on Customize Desktop. Now go to Themes. Select Windows Vista Basic theme and click on OK.

    But from my experience, I'd recommend at least 2 GB of RAM.

    my laptop only has the one slot and im not sure u can get bigger than a gig for it
