Check how much data you are trying to burn on ur CD...is it more than the space available? also before copyng stuff on the CD first you can always check in your my computer on how much space is free on the CD.

how are you trying to burn the info to CD ?, presumably your using XP SP2, have you tried CDBurnerXP or are you using XPs native CD burning capabilities ?

    Edit: CDBurnerXP is free

what media are you trying to use ?

the best brand is TDK IMO

also the internal burning laser could be out of alignment or broken

because i think they use a different laser to burn disc's as they use to read disc's, if i remember correctly

try some TDK media & failing that replace the drive, or burn the info to a DVD
