Hi there, have a pb laptop, just replaced a faulty hard disk with a new 80gb Hitachi. When trying to format, I get the error message "Format not supported on drive C: Format Terminated"

So I was advised I need to set partitions first in fdisk. I've attempted to do this but when I try to display partition info there's nothing.Have tried several times and nothing. Would this be a fault or is there something I can do about it?

    I'd appreciate any help I get. :( :D

presumably you are using XP SP2, have you tried booting from the XP SP2 CD by changing the boot order in the BIOS to boot from your CD drive first and insert your XP CD, aternatively you can download a CD bootdisc from here & boot from the floppy & use fdisk to create partitions & start Windoze installation from the command prompt

What OS are you trying to install. If it's Win2k, XP, or Vista, you can simply boot off the CD for the install. During the install process, you'll be given an option to format the hard drive with FAT32 or NTFS.
