I have bought a brand new Seagate 500GB Barracuda SATA2.
    My Mobo is a GA-965P-DQ6

I have put the SATA connector in the SATAII0 port.

    Fresh reinstall with XP.
When I get to the part where he asks on what "partition" I want to install XP it says that the disk is only 131070 MB big.

Any idea's how I can solve this pls?

    Thank you,

    Dirk

    Only seeying 131GB from a 500GB HD

    Welcome to HWF :)

To get SATA working, you'll need to install the SATA drivers before XP will recognise it. What is the brand and type of your motherboard?

You need to install [google]XP SP1[/google] or [google]SP2 update[/google], I'd suggest SP2. If you already have installed XP then the update will allow you to see the extra space under computer management in the control panel.

However if you want to see space during install of XP you need to [google]slipstream xp with SP1 or SP2[/google] and then install.

Sniper is correct. You need to have at least SP1 installed for the OS to utilize past 132GB. Once that's done, you'll need to go into Disk Management (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management) and format the additional space and assign a drive letter.

SATA does not require drivers to be installed. As with IDE, it is automatically recognized in and of itself. If you are using RAID, and have the controller set in a RAID mode, then you will need to install a driver.

    Thx all...this made everything work.
I used partition magic afterwards to join both partitions and everything is working fine now.

A question. In my BIOS I have a setting:

onboard SATA/ IDE Device set to enabled
onboard SATA/ IDE ctrl mode is set to AHCI, this can also be set to RAID/ IDE and IDE

    Thank you for your time,

    Dirk
