Looking to build my own computer and I've got an idea of the parts I'm looking for. I'm trying to make it compact but able to play games competently. Just wondering if there's anything that needs improving.....

Case: Shuttle XPC SD32G2 with built in motherboard
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
    HDD: Samsung SpinPoint T166-HD501LJ (500GB, 7,200rpm)
Optical Drive: Samsung Super WriteMaster SH-S203
GPU: Either EVGA 8800GTS ACGS or Sapphire X1950 Pro

PSU and RAM are undecided, but I'm looking for ~600W and 2GB

Yeah, I've just realised that case won't fit a 600W PSU. Can you recommend a case that will but doesn't come with an overload of 5.25" and 3.5" bays?

I am definately not as familiar with that case as you would like. But I believe that is a HTPC barebone. It uses its own form factor called the "Shuttle Form Factor" that means you are stuck with the PSU that comes with the case which is a 250W PSU. That means that the vid card you chose prolly will not receive sufficient power to it (especially a 8800 GTS.) That is the limit of these off-type form factors, and if you are wanting something smaller go with a micro-atx case that uses a regular sized power supply that you can throw a 550-650W PSU into. Otherwise you are going to have to MAJORLY downgrade alot of your hardware.

It looks like you are not in America, but I will still find some decently compact micro-atx cases you may like. It looks like you are going for as small as possible:
