ok so i am planning on getting a new hardrive and this time i am thinking on going with SATA. I was planning on purchasing to WD 500gb and a 250gb caviar. They are both SATA 3.0.

my mother board supports 2 SATA devices but only at 1.5gb/s and the ones i want to buy are 3.0gb/s. I know they are backward compatible but the hardrives i am planning on purchasing are OEM and do not come with the 1.5gb/s limiting pins.

so what i am asking is will the SATA 3.0gb/s drives work on my mobo that only supports 1.5gb/s if the limiting pin is no there???

    plz help!

BTW i am purchasing these from newegg and am trying to stay in a $170 budget.

Well, my hard drive I have now is SATA 2, and I used it in a SATA 1 board for a while, with limitted to 1.5Gb/s pin arrangment. However the jumper was very loose and often fell out, never really did any damage. I should be backward compatible and work, but at the lower bus speed of 1.5Gb/s as oposed to its full potential of 3.0Gb/s, but you wont notice much of a loss in real time perfomance.

I think your 3.0G's should work. But keep in mind that the motherboard, since it supports up to 1.5G's will limit data transfer to 1.5G's.
