    Hey

I just upgraded my computer from an E6600 to a Q6600.
It all works fine, only that in device manager under 'Processors' there are 2 unknown devices.
Also under 'Processors' there are 2 processors shown as 'Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.4GHz.'
The location of the unknown devices is 'on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System' and it says they are working properly.

Any ideas to what they might be?

    Thanks

Depends on what your mobo is. Your mobo can't recognise quad core cpu at the moment. Try updating your BIOS.

    Thanks.
My motherboard is ASUS p5n32-E SLI PLUS. It does advertise 'Quad core ready' and on 3D mark it tells me that my processor is the quad core Q660 which is right.
I will try updating my bios and see if that makes any difference.

I updated my bios to the latest version, no change :(.

I noticed that windows also recognizes that it is a quad core. Under system it says Quad CPU Q6600.

Could the two unknown devices really be the other 2 cores? My 3DMark score raised by 800 after installing it must be working properly.

Hmm in this case i would leave it as it is. Anyway, showing 2 unknown devices, especially if these are 2 cores showing, and elsewhere Windows recognises quad cpu - that wouldnt affect the real performance so far.

try to update them from windows there must be a choice to "update driver" it will automatically find and install what it needs as it is a cpu defined under root
