    Hi

I returned home last night and found that my 3 year old had been playing with my pc. As a result i have a big problem.

When viewing web pages as i click a new link to a new page my pc takes this as a command to go back one page. In effect whatever i do i return to my home page.

It isnt just web related. I cannot shut down my PC by clicking the shut down button as the pc acts as though i have cancelled the request.

There are various other oddities which i wont bore you with for now. I am hoping it is just a simple case of settings being changed but i cant track anything down.

Any help/ideas would be much appreciated.

I am running Vista home premium.

    Thank you

Not knowing all the problems you might have, the easiest way to fix this problem is with System Restore ...Just use System restore to Restore to an earlier date.
Just go back 1 or 2 days.. That should fix your problem.

it sounds like the mouser button settings have being altered and possibly more, are you using a mouse with custom software installed ?

if not, try mouse settings in control panel, to see if anything has being changed

    Ok, i'm really struggling now.

I did a system restore and it failed. An 'unexpected error' occurred.

Basically anytime i want to navigate by left clicking my mouse i tend to get random results. What i mean by this is initially it will take me where i want to go and then either after a few seconds the page will automatically revert to the previous one or if i try to navigate somewhere new the computer seems to take this as a request to go back.

This happens when web browsing but also when navigating around any areas of my pc. I have done a full system scan (running Norton 360) and tried disconnecting my Broadband also.

Windows updates are failing to install also.

Any ideas would be appreciated and please let me know if you need more information from me. Do i need to re-install my OS?

    Thanks

Well, reinstalling OS is usually a cure-all if everything else fails...
I personally have nothing to suggest so if no other solutions come up, then I guess you should try that. If it's a software issue then clean install of OS will fix it.

Do you have another mouse to try? It sounds like a software issue but before you reinstall the OS i'd at least try a different mouse.
