Hi all. recently upgraded my pc, added win vista ultimate edition and added a new graphics card (sapphire radeon x1550 512mb x8 agp) to replace old 64mb card. sinse i installed it i have been having strange problems, the first time when i installed it i used the ati driver provided it seemed to install fine, however video playback didnt work through windows media player and was very jumpy and slow through other players, windows vista gives the card an index rating of 1.0! so i uninstalled drivers rebooted and let windows install it automatically without the cd, which it did. video playback then starting working and my vista index score went up to 4.1. I thought i had resolved the problem however today when i booted my computer its gone back to the same problem, index score back down to 1.0 video playback very jumpy, and wont play through win media player. my system specs as follows: AMD Sempron 3000+ Abit VA-20 micro atx 2gb RAM 250gb sata hd sapphire radeon x1550 512mb dvd-rw 300w psu sinse adding in the new card and upgraded memory i have also noticed in increase in tempreture of components, there not burning hot, but much warmer then the used to get... also i looked in the event log and i get the following warning message: -------------------------- This device took longer to initialize, resulting in a performance degradation in the system start up process: File Name : PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71A7&SUBSYS_3001174B&REV_00\4&2fcd0ae0&0&0108 Friendly Name : SAPPHIRE Radeon X1550 Series Secondary Version : Total Time : 815ms Degradation Time : 298ms Incident Time (UTC) : 06/12/2007 19:28:34 ------------------------------------ maybe this is a clue? also is my psu powerful enough to be running my system properly with 300w? if anyone can help out here it would be massively appreciated this is driving me nuts! lol thanks alot.
Well, your power supply DOES have low wattage, but your running windows vista with no problems aside from this video card problem, So in that case, im not gonna go off and say go buy a new power supply... BUT, adding more peripherals such as usb's, more ram and other periphs. might require some more wattage so keep that in mind. NOW, i recommend you change your CMOS settings to default. Make sure your Primary Graphics Adapter in CMOS is set to AGP and not PCI or anything. If problem persists... try installing XP again (yeah i know... what a bummer... that'll take a while to do again) since Vista currently has loads of problems for many users
