Ok, Hi all heres me problem.

I have built a few systems before with no probs but this one is doing my head in.
    I have
    Foxconn mobo
    AMD X2 5600+
    7900GTX oc
    2 160Gig Satas
    2 Pioneer Dvd Rw
    1Gig kingston.

I can be doing anything on the pc when it will just freeze and not respond to ctrl alt and del so have to hit reset
then the Bios will go through its checks taking more than 20seconds on each item.and then after that either it will go all black with a flashin curser.
say no op system or NTLDR is missing.
i have found that if i remove the Mobo Batt and remove the Psu plug to the mobo for about 5mins and then put it all back then it will go to the bios fimd everything in less than 10secs and load as per usual till the random next time.

I have run memtest over 125% and no errors.
and have used foxconns live update and loading the latest bios dated Nov 07.

Am i right to assume that this wierdness is the mobo?

    Many thanks
    Steve

Ok, i thought it was a motherboard issue UNTIL i got to this part.
This has happened to me before. NTDLR is a sys file located in your C: drive (hidden) and is required to start windows PROPERLY. If you have a floppy disk, copy this file and insert it for evey time you get the error. Windows will then boot normally.

But in any case, i recommend you install windows again since it now seems like a windows problem. If you have Vista, try XP Pro

    Ye cheers for that.
the thing is sometimes it says that, sometimes it says read/write error on the drive and sometimes its just a black screen.
i have re installed windows 3 times already with the same result.
And as soon as i take the battery off the bios and unplug the Power supply to
the motherboard for 10mins, then re atach it then works.
just then goes to bios, sees and checks all in 10secs and proceeds to load winxp.
till the next random time, so that says to me there is no read/write error or ntldr missing or that would persist on being there.

I have had to do this 2 times today as well and each time i did the above it then works.
so i have now RMA'd the Board back to ebuyer and ordered a Gigabyte one.
also the CPU/BOARD/RAM/DRIVE and Optical Drives are all brand new from ebuyer less than 3.5weeks old and the SMART says the drive is ok and the memtest found no errors with the memory.

Well,...I know its all academic now but one thing that did occur to me was the possibility of a boot sector virus. It seems every time your clear your CMOS your boot works correctly so maybe a app you were loading had something nasty with it, just a thought. For future reference its not necessary to unplug your system and take out the battery to reset CMOS to its factory settings. Just take a shunt and use it to short the mobo's CMOS reset wires ;)

A nice thought indeed. Clearing the CMOS seems to clear a lot of boot problems these days..........when all else fails of course.

I'm glad you RMA'd it... your hassle wasn't worth it. Comment back and tell us the good news when you get another board!:x:

A nice thought but I'm completely wrong  Clearing your CMOS will have no effect on your boot sector so disregard that pearl of wisdom however the CMOS clear bit is pure gold :D

i also thought of that but the Foxconn Mobo has a build in Bootsector virsus detection thingy and its always been enabled.I have AVAST as well that checks boot sectors and memory then the h.drive + it just seemed very early to have one as i had only have built this thing 3 weeks. ago, but good thinking and many thanks for your assistance..

I still would have liked to know WTF it was and is before my new board comes on friday and this one goes back.

Pc's Can be so damn tempremental and it can me many things when they do play up and thats just hardware, gets worse when u start updating patches and they fix one thing and then stop something else working and conflicts with programs..Headaches a plenty.lol.
