bit-tech.net | KDE 4 to use much less RAM There was a test done recently on the new KDE (KDE 4) and apparently it will use 40% less memory than current KDE (3.5) Thats a pretty impressive improvement and it makes Vista look silly.
Really wasn't expecting that. 40% less memory over KDE 3.5? KDE 3.5 didn't use more than GNOME, so cutting 40% is a huge improvement. It doesn't matter if RAM is cheap nowadays, if it runs light its a bonus.
Some plank has typed.... "Making prettier desktops that run in 2K of memory doesn't help. I don't want the desktop to be pretty, and even if I did, RAM is so cheap I really couldn't give two hoots." If you dont want a pretty desktop dont use one! And who wants to waste RAM.... you can pretty well guarantee his next performance upgrade will be RAM! Besides, my little PC can only have up to 256mb, price doesnt control that!
Aye, my current desktop is still an athlon XP whichi I built a few years back. DDR ram is now much more expensive than DDR2, and upgrading isn't always an option.
