can I just ask how to delete all security stuff from my old computer which I want to get rid of? I am giving the pc away soon. Also the internet icon on this one is circled with a cross and the words "internet connection unplugged" I neded to sort this out as well. Any suggestions? Thanks!
What I would do is just remove ALL important info that is yours, like Documents and family picture's.. The only real way to remove everything is to wipe it. But it all depends what's on there..As far as security stuff , like Antivirus and firewall ,it can stay...
What exactly do you mean by "security stuff"? I'm guessing you want to remove your personal data to avoid the possibility of identity theft. If that is the case your safest way is to overwrite all the data on the drive and then reinstall the OS on your HDD. Click here to see a recent thread for disk wiping utilities. If I've misunderstood disregard this :x:
...if you do want to wipe the HD. Most HD manufatureres have free downloadable utilities to diagnose and repair HDs. One of the utilites should be writting 0s to the HD, or erasing the HD. Yoe need to find out who makes your HD then go to their web site, you also might need the HD model too.
basically to remove all data from a HDD, one sure way to make sure no data can be recovered, what i do is bash the HDD with a BFH[ot]Big :swear:ing Hammer[/ot]then nothing can ever be retrieved if you do that Edit: the shock actually knocks the data from the HDD
fetch your all backup data from ur pc then restore your pc with earlier date when you installed Operating System. that would resotre your pc as u fresh install a Windows and would remove your all security settings. this option with Win XP.......
If you want to thoroughly wipe your data before passing it along, use DBAN: Darik's Boot and Nuke (Hard Drive Disk Wipe) It will make all of the old data unrecoverable, as opposed to just "tearing the labels off of folders", which essentially what deleting a file conventionally does.
