Well, im building a computer for my girlfriend, and it's going to be used mostly for photo editing and some pathetic games, but i wanted to know who makes good quality video cards for nVIDIA. I know that her photo editing wont need an exceptional video card so I'm currently looking at a Gigabyte FX5700 w/256 DDR. Here it is - http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-125-133&depa=0 Thanks in advance for any help!
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-325&depa=0 I've got that same card! I'm very pleased with it. $72 bucks. Great card, OC's nicely and it still performs great without OC. I can play battlefield:vietnam on it. You might wanna stick a fan next to it though, or mount one under it like i did. It tends to get rather warm during games. But not playing games i wouldnt see any need for one.
Oh, sorry! I forgot to mention... I'm specifically looking for an nVIDIA card 'cause I'm going to be installing Mandrake 10 as the main OS. Thanks though.
oh, alrighty thenm it's no problem, http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-127-116&depa=0 that's gonne be $100 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-103-156&depa=0 thats $73 bucks, the one above will beat its ass, but this one will still play light games fine
The FX5700 will be way more grunt than she needs for Linux, especially if she's not going to do gaming. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-139-156&depa=1 That's a GF2 MX400, but it's cheap. Jaton is pretty basic, but they work fine. Unless you go with an SiS Xabre-based card, you're really not going to find anything non-nVidia for cheaper (except maybe on eBay).
