my processor has starting overheating .... when the system is idle it remains at around 62C...but,it goes upto 97C while playing videos. i am running a small app to monitor its temperature .. . i started monitoring the temp after my comp rebooted on its own a couple of times last week. i have tried cleaning up the heatsink on the processor and also changed the thermal paste after removing the old one. the fan seems to be working fine @2500 rpm heres a screenshot... check the graph... it goes up as soon as i start doing something cpu intensive HELP!!
Are you sure the 90 degree one isnt your graphics card? check in your bios for a real current temperature after a reboot to check. It also looks as if you have your CPU fan connected to a chassis fan connector - purhaps try putting this right too?
If it was the GPU wouldn't that still be hot at 94-97 degrees???? also what CPU Cooler is the guy using?
Sure it would (but not as bad) but still best to get the facts straight, in my experience current graphics cards are running much hotter than CPU's atm (at least with AMD/NVIDIA combinations)
Also if the CPU reaches a certain temperature does it automatically shut the system off before it fries its self????? Also i bet it turns out that you have not fitted the CPU cooler correctly.
i am quite certain its the main cpu thats heating up.. and not the gpu. the bios displays so .. its at around 72C just after powering on. i have removed all the dust from the heatsink and replaced the thermal gel between the processor and the heatsink twice .. but still as soon as i run a game or play a movie the temp goes upto 95-96C. @pimp the the computer did shutdown on me a few times last week... that is exactly what prompted me to install these h/w monitoring apps... although i have tried to overload the system on purpose... it heats upto 95C but still does not switch off!.. i have also tried leaving the cabinet open for better air circulation. my specs:-- p4-3.0GHz 512mb ram (400mhz) intel D101GGC motherboard Nvidia 7300LE and a 120GB segate pata HD(if that matters) OS- WinXP pro X64 Ubuntu 7.10 gusty gibbon
