Hello, I'm trying to bring to life again an old pc of mine (bought in 1997). It's a Pentium MMX 200mhz with 32mb of DIMM ram PC100. I'm planning to install Windows Falcor on it but first I must get it working. I was having no problems with it and used it for 3 or 4 years without interruption until I replaced it with a newer one. That was one year ago, and now that I want to put it up and running again I'm having problems. The thing is that when I install the DIMM memory module it seems to be inserted correctly, but the speaker emits a continuos beep (like beep-beep-beep-beep and NOT beeeeeeeeeeeep) at a tremendous pace. I've checked Award beep error code and it says it is more likely to be an AC supply problem but I replaced it and obtained the same results. Any help is apreciated; don't bother to advise me on buying a new computer, I'm determinate to get this one working again. Thanks in advance
as you mentioned ur beep section it tells clearly that the problem is with your ram not with ur ac supply unit.....
The thing is that Award's beep error code says that when the problem is related to RAM the sound is more like "beeeep-beeeep-beeeep..." at a slow tempo. My speaker sound is like "beep-beep-beep-beep-beep..." at a tremendous pace, as I already said.
Typically, high frequency beeps during operation tend to indicate overheating. Might want to make sure any fans in use are running well and that the heatsink isn't dusted up.
Maybe I've omitted something important which is that I can't get to POST, the cpu clock speed indicator doesn't even turn on; screen remains in complete darkness and doesn't receive signal from VGA adapter. What do you think about that?
Hi mate Check all the connection onto your mobo from the PSU and try reseating the ram into a different DIMM socket. also check if theres a little slider on the back of your PSU and make sure it say 230,240 or 250 if your in the UK which your flag suggests. failing this try resetting the cmos (if you need any advice on this post back) Hope this helps Dave
