this is the board i have right now the SE440bx-2 right now i have a p3 500mhz in it its a Slot A interface. I would like to know the fastest processor i can install. I kniw a friend who installed a 1.0ghz p3 slot A Chip into into a P2 450mhz board PS:any info or websites i would appreciate on how to install and configure the new processor, Thanks Wrenn:swt:
You'll have to check Intel's site. I knew the SE440BX-2 I had didn't support over a 450MHz PII, but I recall there being others that could. You'll have to check the numbers on their website to find out for sure. Maybe. Hmm...I didn't know they made slot A Pentium III's
hey thanks but ive already been to their website with fail and looking through the CD with the manual that came with the board only told me 450mhz but like i said we cramed a 500mhz in there pretty good. Im just gonna try it and see according to this person i know he claimed that almost all p2 and p3 boards are the same (duno about that) but they can handle much more than the board label or manual tells you which dosent suprise me. I hope to learn more im still learning about Problems and soultions like this thanks. :stupid:
Well, he's partially right. The famous BX seems to be living on quite well, though some boards may have been engineered to not take more that a certain speed processor. It's likely a BIOS implementation, and if they don't update the BIOS to recognize the CPU, it may not work, but that's not to say it won't. It's a toss up. If it's not offical, you're on your own. Well good luck with the board.
