Hey guys, I just got an E8400 and after install I am having boot trouble. I'll write full details below, but in a nutshell... The system boots normally into BIOS and it will even boot Safe Mode, but normal Vista boot hangs on the green bar. ANY help would be greatly appreciated... details follow:

I have a newly built system with a borrowed processor and RAM (until mine arrives) with the following parts:
    Gigabyte P35-DS3R (Rev 2.1) with F11 BIOS
    Pentium D 2.66MhZ
    Kingston 2x512mb PC2-4200 DDR2 RAM
    Leadtek 8800GT 512mb
    500gb WD hard drive

Everything was 100% stable with the old processor, although the system was laggy with the bad processor and only 1gb of slow RAM.
After installing the E8400 the system booted all the way past the Vista green bar and hung on a blank screen. All attempts to repair the problem using a Vista disk have failed (short of a clean format/reinstall). The system will boot into Safe Mode (although it waits a long time on crcdisk.sys), but after only a few operations Safe Mode will lock. This is preventing me from backing up my hard-disk data.
My suspicion is that the RAM is too old and crappy to be reliable, but it works fine with the old CPU... I'm at a loss and I need to decide soon whether to exchange my CPU (before they run out at the shop).
Thank you guys a ton for any help!!!

Well, I've solved my own question... with a bit of help of course.
I went down to my local Tsukumo (where I bought the CPU) and conversed my way through some bad Japanese (and a tiny bit of English) and was recommended to reinstall Vista. He was of a mind that my big jump from a Pentium D to Wolfdale was messing with Vista too much for a quick fix.
Long story short, he was right.
So listen all you people all across the land, there's no need to argue... just reinstall Vista :-P

i have a better idea.. uninstall Vista, reinstall Linux, and XP dual boot. all problems solved. when XP dies boot into Linux and have a system that will always work for you.

actually i like Vista. i'm just giving you sh1t :)

I'm an early adopter... It always gets me into trouble, but I think I like it. To me, I'd rather have a shiny new system that gives me crazy troubles than an old reliable one that has no surprises.
But I guess this was obvious from my "day 1" 8400 post, eh?
