    hi everyone

any ideas to why my pc keeps shutting down when i am trying to watch, burn, rip cds or dvds. i have 2 drives and it happens with them both.

i have run avg anti virus and it isnt finding anything, could it be the drives or the powerpack which are faulty.

    thanks for any replys

What are the specs of this system, including the power supply brand and model?

What temperatures are you getting for the CPU?

The common suspect for resets and shutoffs is overheating, as I think Big B is implying.

i had this problem and ended up buying a new motherboard to solve it. i later found out my BIOS was dodgy on my old one, rats...

try updating/flashing your BIOS after checking temps are below 55 degrees celcuis, and defo below 80 on your graphics card

If the PC is asking you to save your work before it shuts down within one minute check for system process lsasss.exe (Note the 3 S's) Dont confuse with lsass.exe

This is a symptom of the sasser worm and can be easily removed.

If not the only posibilities are a shorting reset button, overheating or a duff psu. Check the case for dust, check the fans are running ok, disconnect the cable from the front panel at the motherboard end and swapping the psu should help narrow this down for you.
