I cannot seem to fathom this admin permission thing. You see, Both myself and my dad are listed on Vista as system administrators. Yet whenever we make any software or hardware changes vista throws a wobbly and tells us we need to be logged in as system administrators. If Vista allows us to proceed then we are forever getting the "Vista needs your permission" pop-up. My dad cant install his HP printer because of this. So, let me get this right. first Vista needs to verify that I am an administrator, even tho I am logged in as one, then needs to ask for my permission every time i move my mouse, only then to deny me because I an not an administrator... Im trying specifically to use the SFC utility in command prompt to try and figure out why the DVD drive has been lost. Im told that i must be an administrator running a console session, yet Im logged in as an administrator. Dont figure?.... Clearly I am doing something wrong....(Apart from the obvious which is using vista in the first place!...) Or is there a way I can disable, or tone down this OTT level of protection?
Well, in Vista you are able to completely disable the UAC (User Account Control), which is the obnoxious popup thing. You'd have to go in the control panel to your user account. I believe you have to "change security settings" and then click disable UAC. Sorry if this is a bit off as I dont use Windows, much less vista. Just going from memory.
