Just built a new pc. Specs are: Intel Core Duo E8400 Wolfdale-(3ghz) Patriot DDR3-2gigs Asus Maximus Extreme motherboard EVGA 8800 GT 512mbs-PCI-Express 16x Western Digital 250gig 7200 RPM sata hdd OCZ 600 watt gamers powersupply My question is I know that this DDR3 is still pretty new. But my question is that with this asus motherboard that I got I was just wondering is it ok to let the bios automatically configure my parts or do I need to tell it what to do. The reason im asking is ive heard its better to tell it what to do than just use auto. If that is the case I was wondering if yall could help me out on setting it up were I can get the most performance out of the system without overclocking. If anybody knows anything I would be greatful. Thank you all for atleast taking the time to look at my post. Hope this is not that stupid of a question.....but I just really dont know how to setup the parts withing the bios. Thank You, Colby
generally you are best to leave all setting on auto, however, before you change anything in the BIOS i would recommend you fully research all items which the particular BIOS setting refers to, if in doubt, leave it alone BTW: experiment, but, change BIOS settings with care, as you could very easily make your system unbootable
Just leave it as it is, then use [google]cpu-z[/google] to check that your RAM is operating at the specified speed. If not, then you can change the settings.
OK great thanks for that info. Now Ive gotten one more question. Its got Windows Vista 64x on it and its just 2 gigs of ram. Would it perform better on xp than on vista due to the fact that Windows vista is eating away A whole lot of my ram and i dont have taht much free. Would I see that big of a diffrence on xp pro. Cause xp would leave me more free ram. Im playing this game stalker and its just on high settings it could go to max and the display is not that high either and the fps jump from 200- all the way down to the dreaded below 30? Why that 8800gt supposed to be a pretty good card. That processor is supposed to be a pretty good card. That ddr3 supposed to be fast but im thinking its vista not giving me enough free? Could I be right or deos my parts just suck?
M$ may well be releasing SP1 for vista tomorrow, but, i'd stick with XP until at least SP2 for vista is released plus vista causes a huge drain on your system resources, XP is bad enough at eating resources, but, vista is worse by all accounts
