The new 3870 X2 (2 GPU chips on one card) has a huge apitite for power i seen on some reviews that it needs over 300Watts of power on full load. Thats madness espcially if you got two of them in your rig, the 3870 only needs like just over 100 Watts. But i am considering on getting this card along with a more powerful PSU, its around £280 in the UK the 1024MB of GDDR3 shall be wicked. I herd it runs Crisis beautifully but don't think on high AA. Check it out on OCUK
Ya, it's actually the powerhouse of the market now. Too bad that they will lose it when Nvidia goes the cheapo way and makes an 8800GTx2 or 8950x2 like they did with the Seven series cards. I'm pretty sure the only thing that has stopped them so far would be the fact that they havent got Quad SLI support yet, and that's what you would need to SLI two 8800GTx2 or 8950x2 (however they name it) cards together.
Yeah but won't the new 8800GTx2 or wotever its going to be called will be even more power hungry then the 3870x2?. Becuase as i know the 3870x2 uses a 55nm processor which uses less power then the 65nm processor which is in the 8800GT.
Yeah, it'll be more power hungry, but it will prolly give ~20% more performance. And all it'll take will an on-board SLI. So once nvidea gets their Quad GPU drivers workin' I'm SURE you'll see an 8800GTx2.
