    Hi.
Firstly I will say, I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, so I've posted this thread and also another thread on a software forum just in case.
Anyway, the problem is only with one CD (Bejeweled 2 Deluxe installation CD). When I attempt to play the game on my PC, it asks me to insert the Installation Disc, so I do (this is the original disc, not a pirated copy). Then the popup that comes up asking me what I want to do (eg, play files in iTunes, view files in a folder, etc) tells me that I have inserted an Audio CD.
I know there is not a problem with the CD, as I got the game onto my computer some time ago using the exact same CD, and when I insert it on my Mother's computer, it works perfectly.
Please help me identify the problem.

Some information you may want to know (let me know if you need more, you probably will):
I am running Windows XP SP2
    My CD/DVD is LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P65.

I have a suspicion that this is a software problem, as it is only the one disc, (perhaps an update on something that now interferes with this disc?), however, any help would be much appreciated, and I apologise for wasting everyone's time if this is a software problem.

    Thanks, Ajr2812

go to lite-on's website and talk to the techs there on the online tech support. i had a similar problem a while ago, but i just had to upgrade the firmware. lite-on's website doesnt have anything about your drive, but the techs should be able to send you a good firmware update

Just click that off, and click on my computer, then your cd drive, double click on the install exe, and install..

Even if you can install via Ghostman's instructions I think it's still worth updating your firmware. Hope you solve your problem :) .

do you have problem burning CDs / DVDs ?

because a simple cleaning CD / DVD may work, although, personally i would ask someone to dismantle the drive & clean the reading & writing laser heads / lenses with some Isopropel Alcohol, but, those cleaning CDs / DVDs work too

Edit: BTW: don't flash / update or firmware or BIOS unless you are 150% sure it will fix your problem

because if use the wrong update of there is a problem like a power failure during the update process the drive will be permanently dead and unrecognisable by the BIOS

Edit: and the same reason apply to BIOS updates

@Mercy: you replied to the wrong thread, the thread you posted on is here

    from here

if a drive is permanently dead it will never work again & you would have to buy a new drive

actually didnt reply in the wrong one, i meant to do it there. but anyways, as long as you use the right update, it shouldnt be a problem. and how likely is it that in the 2 minutes its updating, there will be a power surge or power failure?

    true
you can never tell when a power surge or a power failure will happen

Thankyou to all who replied or gave input. However, there is a few issues to clear up:
    1. Ghostman 1: I've looked into that prior to posting, and it tells me that there is just 17 audio tracks on the disc (which actually play music when I open them), and also, I don't want to re-install because I'm so far through the game lol.
2: donkey42: I don't have any problem reading any other CD's or DVD's nor do I have any problem burning Cd's or DVD's, so I would suspect that I do not need to clean it

I will do as MercyFlush has suggested (update my firmware from the Lite-On site, and then I will post back when I do so, and let you all know if it fixed the problem or not.

    Thanks again everyone, Adam

(Oh my mistake, I just noticed after looking on the Lite-On website, my product is SHM-165P6S, not SHM-165P65, sorry)

I went to the Lite-On site, and then found a firmware upgrade, however when I clicked on the "download" link, I got a webpage with the following:
"We’re sorry, but there is no web page in this site that matches your entry. It is possible you typed the address incorrectly, or the page may no longer exist."
So, if anyone else has any other suggestions, they would be much appreciated. Thanks, Adam

I have Bejeweled 2 Deluxe and mine does not ever ask for the disk, Have you tried downloading a fresh copy and using your serial to see if that will fix your problem ?

BTW: i still recommend against flashing / updating the firmware, but, it's upto you cos it's your system
