Hi, im building a new system for moderate gaming, dvd creation, downloads and extreme internet use(like 6browser at once with like ten tabs each) Ive decided and got OCZ two 2x2Gb PC2-6400 RAM Raptor 74Gb 10000rpm HDD 1x Nvidia 8800GTX card but the thing is i cant find a mobo i want and im not sure on CPU, i dont know whether to save a get 3.0Ghz quad or get a 2.4/2.6Ghz quad and over clock or get a 3.0Ghz Core 2 Duo? can anyone help me on this? please?
The best way to figure out which mobo to get is by your video cards. Basically, you have to ask yourself if you plan on running two GTX or even three GTX cards in SLI later. If you don't-- get a p35 chipset mobo. It will give you the potential to reach the highest overclock. If you do plan on getting one or two more GTX cards, then you will want an nVidia chipset mobo. If you just want a dual SLI you could run the 680i chipset and get perfect performance. If you want to try your hand at Tri-SLI later, get the 780i chipset and give that a try. As far as the proc goes: If this is JUST for gaming, no big video editing or extensive photoshop/ect, then I would go with the Core 2 Duo. They outperform the quad cores in gaming. The only reason being that the quad cores are not used (games aren't made with multi-threading in mind yet.) But if you want to keep this rigg long into the future go with a nice quad as I'm sure patches and future release games will bring the support.
hi, i dont plan on having two GTX but the option might be nice, it there a specific board u would recommend? also im not sure on monitor, its like a 24" but as a TV as well, but i dont want a TV card, just plug sky into screen and change the channel between PC and SKY, any suggestions on that?
If you only "might" go with an SLI configuration I would definately recommend the 680i chipset. Just go with the reference board, it would be plenty. Unfortunately they have decided to double the price on some of their products, freakin rediculous.. But you could go with something like EVGA nForce 680i SLI Motherboard - A1 Version, NVIDIA nForce 680i, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express, SLI, Dual Gigabit LAN, SPDIF, USB 2.0 & Firewire, Serial ATA, RAID 122-CK-NF68-A1 at TigerDirect.com . That's the nvidia reference board design, you will want to find something like that, but not soooo overpriced. Four months ago I could have found that board at Newegg for around $140...
