Seeing as one of my graphics cards has started to play up, I have decided to upgrade my rig. My current set up contains:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ (Socket 939)
    Asus A8N-SLi Premium (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard
    2GB (2x1GB) DDR PC4000 Dual Channel Kit
    2 X NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB DDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card (SLi linked)

I am going to replace them with the following:

    AMD AM2 6000 X2 core
    Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe AM2 motherboard
    2 GB (2x1GB) Corsair DDR2TWINX PC6400 cas 4
768 Mb XFX 8800GTX XT 600 PCI graphics card

Will this give me better performance? Also, Im going to be using my current HDD. Would i able to use this as it is now ( uninstalling the old chipset drivers and such) or would it better wipe it and do a fresh install?

I have installed everything now, so i can sought of answer my earlier questions.

The 6000 X2 core is OK, but there is practically no room to Overclock it. i squeezed it up to around to 3.2 GHz, but i couldn't push it any further without it becoming unstable. Ive reset it now to operate at its designed spec. This doesn't bother me much. Its performed fine in every game Ive chucked at it and handles crysis on medium settings well enough.

The 8800 GTX is offering as good if not better performance than my two 7900 GTX cards. I cant really be sure of the exact difference as i didn't keep a record of my old individual benchmarks, but that increased texture memory has got to count for something.

The on-board sound of the M2N-SLi deluxe is appalling. Its a SoundMax ADI1988 and it dreadfull compared to the AC 97 on my old board. Lots of Hiss, crackles and a noticeable drop in sound quality.

Overall, my old system was benching around the 8500 mark in 3dMark06 and my new one is pushing 10700

I didnt have to wipe my HDD which was a relief. No error messages or any problems so far.
