Hey, i currently have an XFX 8800 Ultra Extreme edition (650mhz core clock clock and 2200 memory clock). Instead of buying the new cards which have less memory i was thinking of buying another Ultra and use them in SLI mode. Now obviously finding an Ultra is harder since it is not made anymore and hence my following question. Does my card need to be exactly the same for SLI? As in... can i get an EVGA Ultra or a different XFX Ultra? (there are two other versions, one with higher clocks and one with lower clocks).
yes you can get different cards they are effectively the same card but with a different brand name. Also you should get the same spec as your card, you don't want one fast then the other, keep it the same.
Hopefully i can get the same specced card. If not can i overclock or downclock the 2nd one? The difference between them are of only 20mhz usually (give or take).
I would get a lower spec and overclock it to higher rather then other way round as you might end up spending more money. There shouldn't be a huge difference between 20mhz so you might just leave it as that.
