Hi Could anyone help with a problem developed recently on my computer. It now takes about twenty attempts to start up. When it does eventually start it does so in a bios screen which says: "During your last boot your system hung for improper cpu speed setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. To optimise the system make sure the cpu speed conforms to the specification of your cpu" My cpu is set at 1800MHz in the bios screen displayed which coresponds to the cpu speed of the cpu as per the manufacture. The system is about 3years old. This now happens each time i shut down and then try to restart. Please someone Help. Thanks pwoj2
Welcome to HWF There are 2 options: The easy way When you get into the BIOS screen, press F5 to reset all default settings. Then choose Save and Exit (F10). The more difficult way Look in the manual of the motherboard at the map (the drawn layout of the motherboard) for the location of the CMOS jumper. Then look in the manual how to put the jumper to clear CMOS mode. Then do so, and turn on the PC. Then turn it off and put the jumer back to the original position.
If it happens each time you fully shut down it's likely that your motherboard battery has died and is thus not holding the information in the bios correctly, get down to your local electronics shop and ask for a 3v cr2032, pop it in, set up your bios one final time.
Thanks for your replies. It must be the battery because the other tips do not rectify the problem, so its down to the shop. Thanks for your help Pwoj2
Hi I've changed the CMOS battery and Done the F5 ,F10 routine but to no avail. It's taken 28 boots this time to get up and running. Any other sugestions to follow would be appreciated.
Have you gone into the bios and set up your multiplier & frequency correctly now and it's still not keeping it in the memory? Make sure you have your bios reset jumper in the park position and not in the clear command one.
Hi dont understand why i seem to have cured it but it now works ok. Changed the battery with no results. Took advice and removed all cards then reintroduced them one at a time to identify anthing causing problem. the grafix card was the first to go back in and same old problem occured. I took this back out but tried each other card in turn , just for in case there was another bad card. They were all ok, computer started up alright on reintroducing each card. I put the grafix card back in as a retry to test it again but this time everything works ok. Powered down and up several times and things seem ok. Strange beasts these computers.
