My pc has been repaired and upgraded and a new main board has been fitted. Although my cd drive still works, it will not play the applications disc supplied by my pc maker, Medion, so I can't get MS Works back. The disc plays OK on my service engineers pc. Does anyone know what the answer is?
Do you mean, your recovery disks ?Probably because the motherboard has changed..Can you load the disk, and then right click on it, and choose open ? then look for the Works.exe,to set it up..
No -not the recovery disc but the "Applications Disc" which contains the bundled software supplied by Medion. It contains MS Works and other programs but all I want back is Works because I have three spreadsheets written on this program. It really is a mystery because the disc runs on friends PC's but when I put it into my CD-Rom drive the drive light flashes rapidly but nothing comes up on the screen. "Freebie" programs that I have tried, which detect all drives on the pc and report their status etc, do not detect any media in the drive. Other disc containing set-up programs, eg mouse, printer etc work OK. Is the MS authentication process linked in some way to the motherboard and, because mine has been changed along with the processor, it thinks it is a copied or pirated version and therefore refuses to play. Just realised that it can't be that because the disc plays on other pc's.
