Ok.. I recently started having this problem. Anything hooked to a switch in my office would not get an IP address. Recently replaced the switch and had the same problem, put a new (known working) router in place and still the same problem. I don't have any static routes set, everything is all DHCP which is enabled, but anything hooked to that switch won't get an IP. I hooked a PC right to the uplink cable and I'm online with no issue. Any ideas?

Router is a Linksys WRT54G, and it doesn't work with any switch. Any switch plugged in will not give out an IP address to anything.

have you tried to force windows to renew your IP address?

start -> run -> type "cmd" -> press enter -> type "ipconfig /renew" -> press enter

What error if any does network status give when your connected using the switch?

It's just a limited connection, the 169.254 ip addy.

renewing IP doesn't work, cant hit my dhcp server. Again, this only happens through the switch.

try resetting the router! (should be a little hole at the back to hard reset)

Also does the swicth indicate that its connected to the router e.g. LED light stays on/flashes?

I've never used Linksys before so can't suggest what to try for router settings but have you tried messing around with them, maybe you have missed something? Also check your network settings to make sure everything is set to auto (get ip address).

Then again you shouldnt have to change anything, it should just work! hmm. I didnt have to when using Belkin router + switch.

or try the offical forums http://forums.linksys.com/linksys

Resetting the router won't work. Even a brand new router (of the same model) won't help.

Are you just stating that or have you even tried? I'm not sure how I can help if you don't answer my questions (switch)! looks like might have a misconfgured router but the best bet is to ask at the above forums I mentioned.

I'd go though the usualy things like; try a different cat5 cable, setup static ip's to check if it works, try connecting to different pc.

From a quick research on google, I think you have setting some where for Dynamic Routing Working Mode? (Gateway/Router) change it to see if it helps.

I can't help you any further since I'm just playing the guessing game here as I don't have that router. (Anyone else if free to jump in and help out or correct me if need be)

As I've suggested before, you probably will get more accurate help from the official Linksys forums I mentioned above.
