I've just started getting the 'SMART Failure Imminent on Hard Disc 0' alert when I boot up my computer (Acer 5570Z). Having searched around, it seems the best course of action is to back everything up and replace the drive. Problem is that I have 2 drives on this laptop: C drive and D drive....which one is Hard disc 0??? COnfused.... The laptop i 14 months old, so I can't understand how the drive is failing already anyway. Of course this would happen 2 months after the warranty expires!!
If you have important data on there back up ASAP. Best bet would be backup both if uncertain which hard drive it is but I think you should be able to tell which one it is by going to my computer -> properties -> device manager -> hard drives, it should tell you the location (I think).
Hmmm.....strange. I did this and under 'Disc drives' there is only one device listed. It has the same number as the supposedly malfunctioning drive (except on the failure alert it ends in (s1) ), but when I click on it, it says that it is functioning properly!?! Any thoughts??
you probably just have a [google]partitioned hard drive[/google], windows isn't good at reporting when the hard drive will fail. But you will know when the HD is about to fail; e.g. slow loading times, random restarts, corrupt files etc.
