    I have a new Biostar TA790GX A2+ with 790 chipset.

I also have an older PCI Sound Balster Audigy Z2.

Which should I use, the built in sound, or the 2 year old SB PCI?

Definitely the Sound Blaster. 2 years or not that card is great.
It's always a better choice to use an external sound card; you'll get better sound quality and faster audio processing.

If you experience problems with it i wouldn't use it though.

,AGREED! That's my card too and I loved it when I had my computer. Almost any sound card will beat onboard audio (even the fancy 8 channel blah blah).

Definitely use the Audigy 2. This also helps in games since the CPU offloads the audio processing to a separate location like your card, overall increasing your framerate.
