i bought a new PC with 8400GS and when i try to install the drivers display resolution from 32-bit color and 1280x1024, which is automatically set with windows drivers, fades to 4-bit and 640x480...but in device manager device is fully recognized and it says that it's working properly..does anybody know how to solve this problem?

Are you installing this from a CD?
Do you have Vista or XP? 32bit or 64bit?

If you've installed the drivers, go to Control Panel and look for the NVIDIA control panel. When you found it, set the resolution in that panel rather to using the resolution settings in Windows.

Yeah integrated graphics can be a problem. When setting your resolution do you see two screens like so?: IMAGE

no just one screen.. "Samsung SyncMaster 710n on GeForce 8400"... i really tried everything, don't have ideas anymore... i'll call the store and try to exchange it for some ATI Radeon card, but do you think it will solve the problem?

At this point it seems like your card is faulty. But there is something else you can try. Get into your BIOS settings and revert to default settings. Save and exit.
If this doesn't solve your problem exchange the card and test the new one out. Make sure you've connected it properly and installed the latest drivers.
