A couple of questions before I buy RAM

Hi, I'm looking to buy a stick or two of RAM for my old shuttle xpc, just had a couple of questions so I don't waste my money.

It's got a Shuttle FN41 v1/v2 motherboard and currently one 512MB stick of Corsair PC2700 (166mhz) DDR SDRAM and one unused memory slot. I was thinking of getting one of these:

    Crucial 1GB DDR PC2700 RAM - 184-pin DIMM: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

to put in the empty slot. I'm pretty much a technical ignoramus so my questions are:

    1) Is there any compatibility issue that means I wouldn't be able to put that stick in alongside the existing one for a total of 1.5GB of RAM?

    2) What's the whole deal with SDRAM? Do I need to be buying SDRAM? My motherboard manual says '...upgrade the system memory by inserting additional DDR SDRAM modules...' and all the compatible RAM types listed there seem to specify SDRAM. But when I used the upgrade system scanner thing at crucial.com it recommended non-SDRAM, as did another forum I asked for help. So I'd really like a second opinion.

If you reply prepare for follow up questions as my brain is an idiot :)

I can't see any compatibility issues. Just confirm that your PC can handle that amount of memory. Also confirm the maximum amount of memory per memory slot. For example, some motherboards can handle 2GB of memory, but only with two 1GB sticks.

The memory you require is DDR SDRAM. Almost all computers use some form of SDRAM.

Thanks for the reply megamaced, I checked and my motherboard should be able to take that amount of memory so I guess I'll be buying a pair of those sticks then :)

Thanks again, I'll come back to this thread if the new RAM doesn't work, catches fire or starts spewing lizards or something.
