I recently bought an Intel D865GLC (Pentium 4 board with the 865G chipset) on eBay and I have a strange behavior with it. When I plug the power cable in the PSU, the PC suddenly powers up and shutdowns after one second. If I press the power button, everything boots fine. But that's strange, because the ACPI "After Power Failure" setting in BIOS is set to "Stay off". Usually, the PC has to stay completely off when I plug the main power, only a small LED is lit on the mobo to tell that there is power. The only things that are plugged on the mobo is the PSU, monitor, keyboard and the power switch. Everything is plugged at the right place. I also updated the BIOS to the latest version available. Does the brief power up is normal with this Intel mobo or is there maybe a problem?
Am I right in saying the power-up only occurs when your plug-in the PSU? Its probably some kind of power-on test, so I don't think you should see it as a problem.
Yes, it only happens when I plug the power cable in the PSU (or turn the PSU switch on). It's the first time I saw that so I found it was like a malfunction or something. But I have to say too that it's the first time I use an Intel mobo, all my previous were ASUS and they all stayed off when I plugged the power cable. So I think I don't need to worry and I'll continue with installing openSUSE!
so you switch the PSU off when your computer is not in use? agreed, usually you don't such behaviour when you turn the PSU on. did it happen when you had only the PSU and motherboard connected?
No, I don't switch off the PSU each time I don't use my PC. But it doesn't matter, this "problem" is still there, even if I unplug-plug the power in the PSU each 2-3 months, when I move the PC. I tried it with only the PSU (CPU and memory too) connected to the board and the same thing happens.
