I have a DV 9000 hp laptop with external 500 GB Esata II hard drive and ExpressCard 34/54. My Express card looks like this:

When I connect my hard drive the computer using USB 2.0, it works, but when I connect using the esata cord, my hard drive doesn't show up on the computer. The express card is installed correctly because my computer said "Device is Ready to use".

I've read some threads about using these sites to get it to work...

    Hot Swap!
    HotSwap!

    JMicron

    Driver

...but I don't want to mess up my computer. I need someone who can give me a step by step process on how to set it up. I've also heard some people saying to change a setting in the BIOS, but I'm not sure which one.

I would GREATLY appreciate someone's help! THANKS!

sorry I'm not familiar with ExpressCard 34/54 but maybe you have to re-scan for hardware changes in the device manager when you connect the hard drive?

I would have thought, the hard drive would only be detected if you start-up with drive connected to the ExpressCard, rather than connect it once the operating system has loaded.

sorry nope, not aware of any BIOS settings.

is the hard drive already formatted?

start -> run -> type "compmgmt.msc" -> look under "Disk Management" does the hard drive show-up there?

My hard drive is formatted through USB, but through Esata, it doesn't show up : /

I appreciate you trying to help me!

If anyone is experienced with Esata, please let me know. I have been trying to get this thing working for a long time.

    thanks!
