Just lately my monitor only stays on for a couple of seconds then goes off again. If I turn it on and off many times it might then stay on for the rest of the day. Any ideas.
make sure the power/vga cables are fitted in correctly, as it might be becoming loose when pressing the power button else its could be a faulty power button.
hi , i have a problem with my monitor and it's drving me crazy ! the user mode box has appeared on the screen , centrally , and i can't move it off ! help appreciated .
When you say 'unplug' have you powered off the monitor long enough to let the capacitors that will be powering the logic/program board to run down? There is probably a bug in the config program that is keeping the display open and unable to close. If you can work out how to reset it you may get rid of it. Again is it a CRT or LCD? If all else fails RMA the bugger (if it is in warranty ofc)- sick of people having to replace faulty hardware when it should be up to the manufacturer.
hi , thanks for the reply , so should i unplug the power lead and unplug the other lead too for a good while ? how long would be enough for it to run down ? sadly the monitor wont be in warranty , would the regcure help ? many thanks
CRT - Cathode ray tube (like and old tv, big and bluky) LCD - Liquid Crystal Display (Thin and modern) Yeah you'd need to leave it a long time, but depending on the type (LCD/CRT) it may take a very long time, I cant guess how the board may be powered but if its a CRT the tube itself can hold a lethal voltage for weeks, LCD's however will just have a few CAP's to run down.
thanks , its a crt , that's annoying , looks like i will have to replace it then ? can't wait weeks , use it every day ! struggling on with it today !
Right well yeah i'd try it unplugged overnight at least. Is the menu responsive or has it frozen there on the screen? Is there a degause button? Try changing to a different resolution, as a CRT has to re-sync you never know may wake it up.
no it does flicker on and off , ie the contrast changes from blue to red in the middle box , the monitor has only 5 buttons , 4 in the middle , exit , 2 others and menu , then a power button to the right , the power button is working but the other 4 buttons are unresponsive , can i change resolution without the buttons ? thankyou very much .
Yeah, if in XP right click on the desktop>bottom option>far right tab (usually) you should see a slider that sets the resolution, dont worry if the screen goes blank, probably means you selected a resolution the screen can't handle - DON'T press anything, the screen will go back to the old resolution after 15 seconds unless you press ok (Sorry can't be more exact - i'm in a vista install at the moment)
Just in the middle of your desktop, just not on an icon or bar. A quick google got me this to help you: http://www.helpwithpcs.com/tipsandtricks/changing-screen-resolution-win-xp.htm
wow , thanks alot , seems to have done the trick ! i have changed the resolution and it has vanished for now ! many , many thanks
Hehe, kind of a fluke really but glad to have helped. Cough cough, you could click on the thanks button... cough cough
