hi, i have a pentium pro 150 MHz processor, 8.6 GB Seagate hard disk. i am using it for simple tasks. i turned it on and it worked properly before i disconnected the hard disk from it to get some data from another pc. the problem is that after i connected the hard disk again to the computer again, the screen kept blinking without giving anything and i was hearing the sound of the fan and hard disk and the cd-rom working. i dont really know what happened. thanks for your help.
When you moved it to the other PC, did you change it from Master to Slave? When you brought it back, did you remember to change it back?
ESD? ? Sorry, dont know what that means. Not unless you mean electrostatic discharge. The only thing ive known to have killed a hard disk is dropping it. Check you have plugged it in correctly. Old pcs like you 150mhz jobby dont always have a notch in the IDE cable and it is very easy to plug the cable in upside down.
yeah, probably a loose data cable or it was installed upside down like Zeus said, or it could be a loose or ill-fitting molex (power) cable, it may be worth trying a spare molex connector, but as you say the drive seems to be powering up i'd tend to agree with Zeus
You would normally get to BIOS if it was a power problem. Its always worth checking every lead (power or data) whenever you start rooting around under the bonnet!
i think there is a problem with the processor. i dont hear the beep of the computer speaker at starting the computer. some people say that this problem is a problem with the fan of the processor. what do u think guys?
so its not getting into the bios but all ur fans are spinning up inc cpu fan? try clearing the cmos. I had this problem with my computer turned out to be a dead motherboard after working perfect for a year, it does happen so i wouldnt rule it out. also check all your cables and molex connectors inc the ide connetor going to the hard drive.
What type of pc is it ? If you can pull the pc case apart then start it up an check to see if it is the Processor fan ...Maybe the fan just went out..
