Hi, I keep a external USB HD, WD5000H032 (MyBook) as my backup and reserve storage disk. Recently, the HD reported write problems. As of now, the HD looks dead. I ran WD repair tool and it reports "too many errors". Is there anything I can do to revive it, or at least to retrieve its contents. I would like to try spinrite, but since it's a usb device, I failed to find a dos configuration to implement this idea. Can you suggest USB drivers for DOS, and, if possible, a complete autoexec.bat and config.sys text? Can you suggest alternative tools for dealing with the HD failure?
hi chermesh if the HDD is damaged then its unlikely you'll be able to recover data yourself, the best option is to, take it to a HDD recovery specialist . But you can try taking the HDD out of the USB enclosure, connecting it to your motherboard, then maybe you can use spinrite?
