    Hi,
I have P4,3.06GHZ,2GB RAM,SIS VGA bought 3 years back.I am developer working on enterprise application(ERP,CRM...)...The deal is I am working from home now. I definitely need a faster machine.I have about 15-20 windows open like 2-3 Visual Studio,3-4 Firefox(with 15-18 tabs each),IE,couple of notepads,2-3 acrobat reader, Outlook,Word,excel...:crybaby: Lot of stuff actually. And P4 is definitely not up to it. Since I am working from home I am in the Stock market as well sine I get some time in the day so there is more windows for that as well. Also I game a little online.

So that was why need a good machine. My budget is about Rs.50000/$1000.
I thought about core i7,but it is expensive for me with the mobo( it goes with X48 only). So I thought I would go for a Quad(...may be Q9300/Q9400 or something better, within my range).I want 500 GB HD,22" monitor,4GB RAM,decent graphics card as well .Also I want to future proof it a little may for next 3-4 years.
Also where do I get it from in India.Would it be cheaper if I order the parts myself then get it assembled by somebody or get the whole thing from a shop.

    Really appreciate the response.Thanks.
I would really appreciate it if I:rolleyes:

If it is to be used always for work and you aren't trying to push the limits too much, i'd go for an AMD phenom II x4 build - you get more for your money with AMD but perhaps not as high performance (Another plus is that the Phenom II has the best power efficiency in it's class - and if you get the 'black edition' the multiplier is unlocked so you can easily overclock it by about 500mhz with the stock cooler!)

Then its just a case of getting the best mobo, memory, gfx and fastest HDD you can :)

    Welcome to the forums!

On a side note are you using just one monitor for all those apps? I'd hope for at least a dual screen setup with that ammount of work!

I am not sure about AMD because all the requirements that I have read for the software that I work on have mentioned only Intel. Also the comparison of AMD and Intel on benchmarks also favor Intel. As of now I am thinking about Intel only.It would really be great if you could help me out with my requirement like what is the best mobo/processor I can go for in this range. Also what works out cheaper 1). Ordering parts myself online and getting it assembled by someone or 2). Approaching a shop and buying a assembled rig.

    Thanks

Just because the requirements state Intel they will work find on AMD also - otherwise nobody would use AMD and they would fail as a company - I was just suggesting that it may be the better choice at the lower end of the cost scale.

I'm fairly religiously anti-Intel, - I'm sure one of the other guys here will hop in to guide you along the Intel route- however a good way is to buy a mobo/memory/cpu bundle that is guaranteed to be compatible - should take some stress out of it!

Not sure about buying it yourself or getting it made - depends on your personal technical knowledge and how reliable retailers are over there, do you have a local computer store you can trust?

    Best of luck :)
