Hi My PC (intel 775 foxconn SIS616 mb) crashed the other day and all I got was a black screen. After opening the case and giggling everything it eventually rebooted. It did it again tonight, but this time no joy. I have removed all the cards, reset the cmos, removed the RAM. But still nothing. The power supply seems to be ok as the lights on the ethernet are still illuminated. The hard discs and CD still have power. Can I do anything else? It is my mediacentre, so no PC means no TV Thanks in advance ZP
try one stick of ram at a time in each ram slot (could be a bad stick of ram). if that doesn't work, try another graphics card if you have any spares laying around (could be a bad graphics card), if that doesn't work try another power supply if you have a spare because some powersupplys can still work but just power the fans nothing else. if none of them work try re-seating the processor, if that doesnt work last thing i would try is take the motherboard battery out for about 24hrs and puttin it back in and try booting. if none of it works i would presume your board is faulty. good luck
Seems pretty silly to advise someone to do something that will take (in your eyes 24hrs) that could be done in a matter of seconds another way.
a friend of mine cleared cmos many times. his pc didn't boot, he took his mobo battery out for 24hrs, come to it next day it booted. sorry wasting my time making suggestions to try and help someone.
Apologies did not mean to offend - Just like to think that we give the most efficient solutions first. You are correct of course sometimes you get finicky motherboards - some even without the jumper to reset. Just be careful with those button cells, incredibly easy to short them just by holding them.
