Hello to all, my first post seeking help. I want to upgrade my current Graphics card and PSU and would appreciate any advice and recommendations. Buying a new pc would be easier but not affordable at the current time so, my current dinosaur pc specs, http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00246036/c00246036.pdf The only difference is a replacement faulty ram stick so the pc now has 1.5gb ram. The current psu is a Bestec 250w. I want to upgrade to 450w-500w and the graphics card to a Radeon hd3850 512mb or nvidia 7600gt or similar, the slot is AGP x8. Will I be able to run either of these cards with the current system if not recommendations please also for a decent PSU. Many thanks. Mark.
Might like this graphics card:Newegg.com - PNY VCG62256AEB GeForce 6200 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards Not much of a PSU person, sorry.
damn that pc is a dinosaur. In my old skool comp I had a Nvidia 7600GT got to say it wasnt a bad card Buy Club 3D GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 AGP DVI/TV Graphic Card CGN-G766 £71.66 - Oyyy.co.uk A good high quality PSU would be Enermax, really good and last along time NEW 500W ENERMAX LIBERTY POWERSUPPLY PSU - ELT500AWT on eBay, also ATX Standard Power Supplies, Power Supplies, Desktop PC Components, Computing (end time 29-Mar-09 14:43:24 BST)
A dinosaur it is but it works and I can't afford a new one at the moment, so upgrade is my only option, it's only used for occasional gaming and the usual word processing/surfing etc. Thanks for the replies.
Thanks for that, but I am pretty set on either of the 2 cards I mentioned, I would still like to know if my system is capable of running either card along with the required power upgrade.
Go here and put in your computer:eXtreme Outer Vision - eXtreme tools for computer enthusiasts When I put in your specs (I guessed on usb devices and such, but the important things I put in exactly) I got about 250 W. So a 450-500W PSU should work for your system.
The most suitable AGP card would probably be a HD2400 pro, while I've sucessfully run an x1650 pro on a 250W stably, I would suggest a Gigabyte 460W psu.
