    Hi all

My hard drive in my laptop Acer Aspire 5315 died after 11 months and I need to replace it... but the cost to purchase the exact same hard drive is almost the same cost as the laptop.

My question: do I need to get the same kind or will any brand hard drive work?

    Thanks in advance :)

well any brand will work fine, although Acer will probably say you invalidate the warranty, but any brand of 2.5" HDD will do, ignore Acer they will say almost anything to get money off you

I used to have 2 Acer laptops. It's actually easy to replace the hard drive by just removing the small cover plate at the bottom of the laptop. If they wouldn't want their customers to replace the drive, then why would it be so easy to replace the drive in the first place.....

Isn't it still under warranty after 11 months?

Thanks so much everyone, you have saved me a lot. The microsoft vista sticker at the bottom of the laptop is in perfect condition but the acer sticker (which has the required serial number) has completely worn off and as such, I cannot put in a warranty request.

This might be a good chance to get a better hard drive (at a far cheaper price than replacing the original HDD).

    Thanks again,
    Steve
