I have a problem with a new built that won't post. Have eliminated defective switch and power supply, and all components are compatable. When turned-on I get a quick on (enough to spin fans) and then immediately off. No beeps, no post, nothing on the monitor, just off. Mother board is an Intel DP45SG and processor is an Intel Q9300. How do I determine if there is a problem with the mother board?

hi, sounds like it's short curcuitin out, is the motherboard sat on the spacers provided with your case to stop the motherboard touchin the back of the case? have you installed an after market cpu heatsink if so check to see if the base plate isn't touchin any soldering on the back of the motherboard if it is, use some insulation tape over the soldering.

Yes I checked for a short, I took the MoBo out of case and set it on a cardboard box, turnrd it on and got the same results.

hi, I take it you've tried another psu? also try another plug socket and psu power cable if no luck with that. re-seat everything, cpu, ram, graphics card. if no luck with any of that and you've checked everywhere for shorts then my best bet would be faulty motherboard.

I have a tester and I tested the PSU and it checked out as being good. I have disconnected all non-essential components and saw no change at power-on. I am beginning to believe that a defective MoBo is the culprit.
    Thanks.

Thanks for all the advice on this thread, I followed all the suggestions and no change. I contacted Intel with the results of our investigation and they agree to replace the board.:)

most common problem with this is a problem with the heatsink, the pc will switch off before post when the mobo detects an overheating cpu so its worth checking the temp on the cpu immediately after the pc shuts down. if it IS cool then it could be the mobo afterall but its worth taking all unnecessary devices out of the equasion and removing them, like ram, all electrical devices like drives, etc just to elliminate problems there
