Hey All, I bought a computer new about 4 years ago. About 1 year ago I removed the CPU and accidentally damaged the prongs. Does anyone have any advice for hardware troubleshooting? My computer will now not boot and instead has no responce. How can I check to see which components are working? Thanks in advance Vega-
Computer Specs Motherboard - INTEL D865 PERL CPU - Pentium 4, 3.0 RAM - 512 (is that enough info?) HD - 120 GB Operating System - Win XP
I assume the pins didnt break off the cpu? As long as they didnt bend too much then the cpu will probably be ok. Can you expand on "My computer will now not boot and instead has no responce. " Does it beep (once or many times), do the fans spin up. If the main fan dont spin does the PSU fan spin? Does the pc beep when you first press the power button as it always did? Once short beep. If so i'd go into BIOS next and check the temperatures.... particularly the CPU temp. Depending on exactly which P4 3ghz you have you should see temps of around 35-50c. Probably closer to the 50c. I could carry on but really a bit of extra info on how it doesnt respond/boot would help keep the posts short!
yeah, the pins can bend a obviously bend back into their original state usually, but as Zeus said: more info would be useful.
If you have One bent prong, then it won't boot..Did you straighten out the bent ones? A little more info would help allot..
